    Hello,

I am new to the site, very excited to tap into the vast store houses of worldly knowledge....

I am planning a holiday garage layout....working with a 10' X 6' layout....or possibly down grading to a 10' X 4' to preserve some walk around space....I have a raised tressel/bridge center piece I would like to have and I would also like to service loops to have to engines moving, 1 freight, 1 commuter.....

    Question:
*** Are there any good sites that are free to use for track planning...or if you have any ideas for this rookie getting started...I would welcome the help...

*** Very motivated....Not to much cash to burn....

Also, looking for quick board cover ides to simulate snow....thinking a fabric covering (felt, worried about fibers getting into motors...or even paint....)

thanks...I look forward to the feedback...

Welcome, for snow, some like the woodland scenics product, however this can be costly. Another option, is baking soda, getting the cheap store brand version will probably help with cost.

Issue I see with this is, not sure how temp of a setup you are planning. Is the track just going to be placed on the board, and after the holidays taken up, put away and the boards placed into a corner? Or is this a layout that you will permanently mount stuff too, and keep it up for a while, and store it away when not in use?

If the former, either option maybe pricey, however if you have a decent shop vac, and it's clean, you should be able to suck up the baking soda or "snow" and use it again the next year.
