Help! I have a Lionel G scale purchased in the early 1990s, the Northpole Railroad.
It has a round track about 4 feet in diameter. The engine keeps tipping off the track.
I have checked all the track connections and they look OK. Does anyone have suggestions?

    Thanks in advance!

Sight unseen How is the track supported? Is it just on carpet? If so the track should be attached to some kind of structure. Wheel guage might be another place to look if the wheels are not properly gauged that might be the problem. How fast are you going? If you are running in a circle slow down. Going too fast and the track on carpet will cause the track to lean out causing the train to roll over kind of like going around a curve too fast on the road. Hope that helps.

Hi Janice ... welcome to Trainboard! :)
If your Lionel is new, Mr. SP's suggestions are good. If you have had the train in storage, one of the rail segments may have been damaged somehow. If Mr. SP's suggestions do not work for you, check the gauge of the track (the distance from the inside of one rail to the other) to see if it has been 'pinched' in. Hope you get the problem solved!
    Merry Christmas! :)

    Welcome to TrainBoard!

As already suggested, carefully inspect track gauge, and the engine.

Hello Folks, just following up on this one. I took the G scale engine to a repair shop and found out the two wheels on the right side are rotating with a bad wobble. The technician is going to work on them and try to straighten them. Thought that the follow up may help someone in the future. Thanks again!

Bummer,Sorry you didn't get any run time out of your set for the x-mass holidays I know how disappointing that can be when you get the tree up and the train is not holding up it's part. My 20 year old set developed an annoying squeak which came and went while only going forward but it made it through the holidays.
