Chris, luv those box cabs, reminds me of Malcom Furlows HOn3 box cabs of many years ago,luv 'em! Lajos,I wonder if this mech will fit under Nn3 Goose #6? With a load on of course. Absolutely outstanding work!Nearly makes me want to jump to Z lolz.
No, it has a very dependable wheel pick-up via aerospace quality wheel vipers. I think the brackets between the wheels create some confusion. Comfortably. This mechanism is a lot smaller and more powerful than the Marklin 88051. The first, very soon to be released chassis comes with universal mounting brackets at both ends, vertical center bracket for side frame mounting, has 8' wheel base for Z (6' for Nn3), 36"+ wheels for Z (28" for Nn3), also, it will be available with larger wheels (33" for Nn3) 45" for Z.
Todd St. Clair of Small Wonderz in Canada forwarded me a link of period black and white images. Check out this image: Union Traction: 1907 | Shorpy Historic Photo Archive Note the box cab electric #17 unloading by the Union Terminal. This appears to be another good candidate for Lajos' new chassis. What a great scene, and very detailed image. Rob
Lajos, After things get rolling, any chance that you could sell drive components (gears, axles shafts, etc)? Dan S.
Unfortunately I have no interest in the 25 tonner, but I'm itching to buy some chassis and yes it would be great to be able to buy gears/worms as well! I already have the overall dimensions of the 25T chassis in CAD so I can draw up bodies for them : )
Any 25 ton switcher in Z requires a lot smaller chassis, also, there are lots of complications with the couplers. Some 35 tonners look doable, and actually I'm working on one of them. To make components available is part of my plan.
OK, the wheel is 4.4 mm diameter with a very delicate flange. It scales 38", so actually only 2 scale inches below the 40" mark, but because of the small flange, it visually works fine as a scale 36"+ wheel. At the same time, the MTL 40" wheels are actually scale 42.5 inches, so the 38" scale inch wheels I'm using are actually closer to 40". In my books, it's a good compromise to cover all the major locomotive wheel sizes.
Another video showing Lajos chassis running: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PLKhvidY5mQ Smooth and slow.
The 25 ton switcher is one of the hardest one. Obviously the chassis is a major issue, 6mm motors are rated 6V DC only, and resistors weaken the performance even further, but there is absolutely no room for a working coupler. And we're talking about a switcher. I'll start with something a bit bigger, the GE 35 ton. It's still very small, but at least doable, and likely almost as powerful as the "Yellow Jacket". By the way, I'm finishing the first batch of the same kind, ready to run chassis (the most powerful of the world in its class :0), equipped with universal front and rear brackets and small vertical brackets between the wheels for side frame mounting. It open the roads for home made logging and small shop boxcabs, ghost cars, many real models and phantasy projects. They will be available starting tomorrow or Thursday.
This is great news Lajos. I see that your homepage have not been updated since Jan. 1st. Will they be available from zthek.com or somewhere else? Regards, Knut
