Out west, where we have real mountains, there is a lot of need to work DBs. With all that heat, so often, we do often see the tell tale signs of use. Or with the Toaster company these days, worse- burned up DB grids. It's funny when that happens, and media gets ahold of it. They wet their pants and make it sound like it will blow up in a nuclear style fashion.

Most of the Grande and SP units would run the dynamics for long periods of time coming down grade, hence the scorch marks...

I designed this paint scheme for my friend's SouthWerstern Pacific RR, the SWP's centennial celebration. He painted and built these Athearn SD70s before Athearn offered the flaired versions. Celebrating 100 years of Service With Pride!

How about a FLYING SCOTSMAN for your Saturday viewing? This is a Hornby model, it was bought/given to me as a going awy presnt from RAF Lakenheath, UK in 2004.
When I ws stationed ar RAF Alconbury, I went to the Nene Valley railroad, and got to ride behind her in 1994. 1 Flying Scotsman.jpg 1 Flying Scotsman 2.jpg

Steam for your Sunday finds the D&RGW 1553, a 4-8-2 MOUNTAIN. These were used in both freight and passenger service until they were replaced by FTs. This model was painted and detailed by a friend, Chris Hawkins. He cut down the tender of this IHC loco and scratch built the doghouse. The caboose, 01449 is an Athearn model, with an MDC cupola. 3 quaters shot 1553.jpg 01449 and 1553 DRGW.jpg 1553 face shot.jpg

A 70 tone Turtle Creek Central loco for your Wednesday...
The number of this switcher, C-45, stands for CAT engine replacement.
