Hello. I'm a model railroader thinking of doing a layout involving the CP / MEC interchange at Mattawamkeag. I"m looking for info relating to MEC activities there in the late 1970's and early 1980's up until the Guilford days. I'm specifically looking for info on the following; 1) Were there any industries in the area that MEC served ? 2) About how many MEC trains a day / week were in the area ? 3) Any memories/sketches of the track layout in the area of the interchange would be most helpful. Also as a side, were there any other areas besides St. Johnsbury VT and Milltown NB that CP and MEC met, and had railroad serviced industries nearby in the time period ?
Hi Police_Cars, you ask for CP/MEC interchanges. However, I'm sure that you're aware that the MEC was owned by the Boston & Maine. Therefore, you might consider that the B&M had daily interchanges at Woodsville, NH with the CP Allouette (#20 Montreal/Boston, and #5 Boston/Montreal). OK, so this interchange ended in October, 1954, but occasionally you might stage a ghostly "flash-back" interchange using B&M Minute Man and CP Robin's Egg Blue/Maroon schemes, especially during Halloween....just a thought. :tb-cool: BTW, have you checked the information and links in this Wiki site, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Railway_of_Maine.
