I am looking at getting a Small Loop track for my Front yard...

    a 6Mx3.6M Oval track...

    nothing too fancy...

I was looking at the LGB Starter sets and thinking of Adding a 6Metre Straight to either side...

Is this the Best way to go ????

Asking for the "best" way may open a can of worms as each person has a different idea of what that means. For your purposes, I don't think you can really go wrong with an LGB set. To add the straights, I would recommend using the longest pieces of track that you can get in order to minimize the number of joints in the track. No reason to stick with LGB track, but make sure whatever you buy has the same size rail as the LGB set. Other than that, have fun!

    it all depends on :
    - your budget
    - your intentions
    - the chance to add to the loop

lgb is quite expensive. as far as i know aristocraft (Welcome to the Aristo-Craft Trains Internet Depot) and usa-trains (http://www.usa-trains.com) both have starter sets.

for more informations you could check out myLargescale.com - Home- All About Your Garden Railroad & G Scale Trains

(sorry admins, but g scale on trainboard can't compete with mls)

This can be a slow board so we all might be dead by now. Still, this is just a thought.

I never bought a 'set' to get started.

When I saw the light and sold off 25 years worth of N scale stuff I did a little research and found out what small/medium engine was available; what three or four cars were made to fit my plans, and what caboose I wanted. I found track that was readily available and just as good as LGB products. I found power supplies were ok for my needs.

As a result, I found myself with an Aristo RS3, six USAT cars and a USAT caboose. AristoCraft track and TE throttle. No starter kit.

I think you'll be happier with something like that yourself. It's reliable and it's what you want rather than just what's in a box.

I hope it goes well for you.
