Hi al I am new to the board and i have a special request to make, I am getting Married in Nov and have been given permision to put a picture of a train on our invitations, but it has to be one of a man and a woman on the back of a train waving or a nice pic of a train entering a tunnel. Any help would be great. Thank you Trevor Jones
Trevor - Welcome to the TrainBoard and congratulations on your upcomming wedding. Although I don't have any pictures that meet your needs I'm sure that some of the other guys probably do. Ben
Trevor, Welcome to the Train Board...Happy to have you aboard! I think I can find a photo of Harry and Bess Truman waving to the crowds from an obs platform during the 1948 US Presidential campaign. However, I doubt if that's what you have in mind....
First, welcome aboard! Here's one I could find: http://www.glenbow.org/exhibitions/online/libhtm/ctunnel2.htm
You seem to have plenty of lead time. I might suggest that you arrange with a tourist railroad that has a tunnel to have a picture of the two of you standing on the rear platform.
Trevor, do you have access to Lucius Beebe/Charles Clegg's book "The Trains We Rode?" There are a lot of old shots on the rear decks of observation cars. Most have several people on them, but a few have a couple. I was going to scan one but it's not mine to do. Suggestion: Find one of those old shots with a couple, and have a friend who is adept at drawing make a sketch of you and your intended in place of the other people in the picture, using the train car and deck, of course, but substituting you and your bride for the actual people. You could take it one step further and have the drawing feature the rear end car, you and your bride, entering a tunnel portal.
