Hi all I am a member of the New Mexico Steam locomotve & Railroad Historical Socitey {say that 3 times fast} here is a photo of some of our track sections.....

Problem is we are attemting to promote a Locomotive shop for our "Girl" and want to do a display model to show sponsers what we are looking for.

Our Loco, the 2926 is a AT&SF 2900 series 4-8-4 and we want a model that we can move around without special shipping needs, {think of it as a small module} the shop building would be around 160' by 100' roughly 12.5 inches by 20 inchs in HO. how ever it will also be 50 feet tall {6.25"} a smaller scale would be ok, but I dont know about the avalibility of the 2900s in the small scales. Any Info would help.

Progress reports are being posted in the BNSF fourm here, http://www.trainboard.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi/ubb/forum/f/25.html?

lastly a look over the rods from the last driver..... [IMG]

What letter is 1 to 1 scale any way??

I would think Bachmann makes a N scale one. but even if the exact wheel sets are wrong most people would not notice, so you could always substitute something similar.

These type displays was what I used to make before I retired. I have notified a guy who might be able to help you. His favorite engine is the 4-8-4.

Ah, the ATSF 2900 - one of my favorite subjects!

Bachmann does in fact make a N scale version of this engine in there current production line, but it's not accurate at all and is rather toy looking.

Bachmann made this engine in HO for almost 30 years until 'the mold broke' (or whatever spin story you are told) in 1996 or 97.

Much to the annoyance of fans of this engine who ask on the Bachmann board almost weekly, the company repeatedly states it has no intention of bringing it back or making a Spectrum version of it.

So that leaves either Bra$$, or eBay/train show swap meets to find these and they're out there.
Here's one of at least 3 on eBay right now:

Bachmann's was the 3781, but the 2900 and 3776 on up class are almost identical. So you could get one of these and re-number it to the 2900 series.

I have 2 PFM brass versions of this engine - #2903 and #3780 and about 6 or 7 of the Bachmann Plus (can motored) version of these engines.

If you want a static display, any of the Bachmann ones will be fine as they didn't change the shells any throughout the run. If you want an operating model, that's a whole different ball of wax.

Post back which you intend to have - if operating I'll tell you which engines to avoid and which should be good for you.

If you have any more questions regarding these engines, feel free to post or email me - I love talking about them - they're my favorite locomotive hands down.

    Thanks all,

We are looking for a mostly static display, but becuse the track will be there I dont think I'll be able to resist hooking up the power.....

Mike if you intrested, we are restoring the 2926 to opperating condition, and Im putting a log of our progress here. http://www.trainboard.com/ultimatebb.php/ubb/get_topic/f/25/t/000440.html

And I Am tenitavely planning a trip to the IRM to copy some data plates from the 2903, and deliver the builders plate copys I am working on, ( both the 2926 and the 2903 had thier builders plates stolen during thier display years)
    pattern in progress,

    Hey Gunns,
Wolfy is the best authority on 4-8-4's that I was aware of, and can probably find any Bachmann part to fix your engine right up. :D
