Hello Everyone! I just joined the forum and am very happy to be here! I am a
l-o-n-g time O gauge train collector and I set up a pretty extensive Christmas Village. I run 6 trains via 3 ZW transformers. Switches are powered through an old Lionel Type Q 75 watt transformer. I will post a video once I get a new battery for my camcorder.

But, to my question. I am finally going to start building a permanent layout. I plan on using MTH DCS for controlling the trains. My desire is to design the layout so that is can run 6 - 8 trains conconcurrently. My goal is to stay away from "aging technology" (like the ZWs). I put a multimeter across the terminals on my 3 ZW's and the voltages vary (at full throttle) from as low as 15 volts to as high 19 volts! Guess that was acceptable in the 1950's.

Anyway, since the TIU is fed a full 18 - 20 volts, is there an after market fixed voltage AC power supply that I can use with the TIU that has enough amps/wattage to power 2 -3 trains. I'm thinking I can use multiple TIUs and use the Master/Slave option. I can then break up the track wiring into "blocks" to share the load across multiple power supplies/TIUs. That's why I figure powering 2 - 3 trains instead of all 6 - 8!!

    What do you think???

Never mind; was able to answer my own question. Guess I wasn't thinking! I should be able to use Lionel's 180 Watt Powerhouse brick. This should work just fine!

    Welcome to TrainBoard!

I'd sure like to see any track plans, or photos of this empire!
