I'm intriguded by a tool car the GM&O built #66440 it was built from a 6 axle passenger car. full frame but its 1/2 passenger car and have boom tender. I can only find 1 picture of it. I'm interested in more pictures or info on this car. I'm also interested in any ohter cars that built similar by other railroads. would like to build a model of one.
D&RGW also build big hook tenders using older heavyweight cars. I cannot find any pics online yet, however.
http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/drgw/drgw.html has a few pics... http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/drgw/drgw024acs.jpg shows big hook 024, and a portion of the boom car, showing some build details. http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/drgw/drgw-X3335acs.jpg showsa full-size shot of another boom car. D&RGW kitbashed what they had to build what they needed. The Rio Grande never was a big-dollar road like UP and others. They saved whatever money they could by rebuilding old cars rather than buy new cars for purposes as this. HTH!
