First of all I’ve been seeing a lot of Santa Fe Diesels on the BNSF line off the Rt 66 near Barstow CA and I don’t know what I’m seeing. Sometimes they are yellow & blue war bonnet and then there are these.

I never have a camera, but this day I decided to try out my cell phone and it’s been almost a month until I figured out how to get it off the cell phone. Anyway can someone tell me what it is. I don’t know how to zoom in on it with my phone. :pcool:

    That's a GP60M

The SF in BNSF is Sante Fe, and line out of Barstow is the old Sante Fe line. Which is why all the old SF units.

Thanks, I usually see the yellow & blue and sometimes its 2 or 3 Locos, but I always wondered if they were still in service or if they were being transported somewhere.

THose guys are still in Service. Most of the GP60Ms have recently had their controls reverted to classic stands for use in local service. So those particular units may be destined to somewhere to have that work done. You will see solid sets of them if you happen on one of the locals running next to I215 towards Perris. I've read many reports that BNSF no longer uses them in Transcon service, but it seems the power desk in LA still likes to send them out when it can. I've seen them numerous times in the last 5 years on Cajon, Tehachapi and at Fullerton.
They were built in the very early 1990s and were the first new power to wear the Superfleet version of the Red and Silver.

I’m so glad to hear that, I don’t like to see anything heading for the scrap yard.

I always enjoy driving the old Rt 66 from Cajon Pass to Barstow because I never know what I’m going to see.

I saw a Conrail running with BNSF about 2 or 3 years ago heading toward Cajon. I sure wish I knew where it was going. I was especially excited to see that at the time because my brother-in-law who worked for Conrail before NS took over gave me a Conrail Loco for my model railroad. I wasn’t sure what to do with it since I was running all southwest stuff. Now I have no problems of running it in a consist of BNSF.

Oh wow, I’ll have to keep my eyes open for one of those.
I really got to start taking more photos. The one and only time I ever brought my camera to work, I droped it out the window and broke the plastic protective cover. So now my lens is always exposed to dirt and sometimes the part of the broken cover slides out obstructing my picture.
I really need a zoom lens, because I can’t get close except for at road crossings
