Being a former N scaler I was used to many active threads in the N scale forum however since moving to HO I have been disappointed with the level of HO topics being active. I am looking for suggestions on how we can motivate HO modellers to post topics and updates on their work. I know we have lots of HO modellers just looking for ideas? I am thinking some running topics like, HO layout updates, HO projects, posting new purchases. We do have a few running topics but would like to see how we can improve, what do you think?
How about an HO Industry highlight? If you have detailed a industry on your pike and want to show it off. Alan will do that with his AW when he puts in new scenery, I always enjoy what he posts. Tom has some interesting industries on his layout as well. It would be fun to see some of those.
Dale, I think you should do a weathering thread, with maybe some before and after shots of your work, maybe shows in pictures or video of your techniques. You have wicked talent.
For me personally, I've been swamped with Kids, work and now president of the railroad club. I don't actually do much modelling right now. So not much posting. Plus, if you strip out the complaining threads from N scale. Us HOers just have nothing to complain about. Joking aside, I just got the garage and associated work bench cleaned and preped to actually work on stuff. I'm sure posting will follow.
I like the industry idea, especially if the reviews included what loads are brought in, what different structures do to support the industry, track plans described by purpose for each rail line, etc etc Also, other industries that can go on your layout to service the industry being reviewed.
What about a topic " show us a locomotive you would like to have on your layout" You would upload a prototypical photo and then update if you find a model to customize? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Thanks for all the suggestions we are starting to get some good activity. I like the topics they have been started that we can build on
How about a weekly Operations Thread. Folks can list how there Operations session and what worked & what didn't. Would spur conversation and maybe addition layout interest. Maybe go back into the archives and pull forward an old hot topic; see if some fresh thoughts might come from that
Haven't I noticed in my 11 years in the hobby that HO'ers are not the most prolific posters in model railroading? If you want to make any forum better, then I'm a fan of more folks posting. Things will then sort themselves out on sub topics just by increase volume of posters. Jim
Everyone in the BVMR's operates in HO. I'm the only N scaler. As a result I enjoy operating their layouts. I have noticed that a lot of the HO groups are on other websites. Don't ask me why but some websites are highly selective as to the discussions and who participates. Kind of closed door and exclusive, if you know what I mean. Charlie has always kept this website open allowing various kinds of discussions. We shouldn't have problems getting the HO'ers back here. How about some brand new blue box Athearn, freight car kits. Don't you miss those days and more then reason- able prices? Or does this belong on a different thread? It's been a slow day on this end. Grin!
Since I was one of the original moderators of the N scale forum we had a huge effort in increasing traffic and I found finding some common topics helped keeping members active. The show us your loads thread currently active is a perfect example Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Rick, I've never encountered a forum that was super selective about who could post...it is true though that Trainboard has a far more active N-scale contingent than any other forum I deal with. I love the increase in HO posts here. Really refreshing.
