I know this comes up time to time, but I wanted to cover it again. I know there's a lot of opinions out there that you should NOT oil or lubricate Kato units. Even Kato is kinda' evasive about the subject on their website. Well, I have 2 C44-9W's from the previous run that I finally had to try something on. They both developed a horrible intermittent fingernails-on-chalkboard type noise, especially when running "lite" at slow speeds. I used some Hob-E-Lube on the gears and drive shaft (sans the shaft going into motor housing) and it so far has totally resolved this. They actually run fantastic now! [IMG]. Has anyone else been lubing their Kato's?

Hi Russ. I have not yet had to lube any of my Kato's, but when they need it I will probably use a VERY SMALL amount of LaBelle oil.

Anywhere there are rubbing surfaces must need lubricating at some time, but the amount of lubricant needed is tiny. Which is probably why manufacturers are wary about recommending lubrication, as folks are apt to squirt a lot too much oil in!

Just want to endorse the less is best policy of lubricating, from the more was poor experience.
