M&CRS has just finalized a deal with EMD for 1 DD70RI, These units will be the first 8 Axle unit produced by EMD in over 32 years. The unit will contain dual 4000HP 710 Prime movers and will operate like Dual "GP70" on one frame. Nonradial trucks simular to what was used on UP's DDA40X will be used on the units. The unit's will also contain a standard EMD Isolated WideCab (WhisperCab) simular to what is used on today's current production SD70MAC/SD75I. In honor of M&CRS parent road Chessie System's 30th Anversery in 2002 the units will be delivered in a B&O/C&O paint scheme and numbered 2002.

I will keep you all informed

Basically I am taking a Athearn DD40 and adding a Railpower EMD isolated cab to it as well as Q-fans to the top. I might also replace the Blower Ducts with Cannon "Freeflow" airducts which are used on the late -2,mid to late SD50 ,SD60 , and SD70MAC units. This should be preaty intresting when done.

sure your right about those numbers right?
1601 is at Henry Ford Museum
1604 is at B&O Rail Museum

the intresting thing is that 1601 was steamed up to the Henry Ford Muesum in operational condition and has been stored indoors ever since. Museum personal say she still leaks lube oil, and a recent inspection showed that all 1601 would need to be made operational again would be a new boiler jacket, a few gaskets, and a Lube job. There is a small possiblity that she MIGHT be restored. But the only problem is noone would let her run.

Also heres a small comparison Bigboy vs Allengany

Big Boy at 40 MPH = 6200 HP
    Allengeny at 40MPH = 7450 HP!!!

Allengeny may have not been the largest length and highth wise but she was the Heavyest and the Most Powerful. She never did get to show her full operational capabilitys because they were used by C&O for Long 200+ car coal drags. Virginan also owned a few H8 but all were retired... and scraped
