    M&NJ Railroad weeks away from being sold
    MIDDLETOWN – A deal could be struck in 60 days for the current owners of the Middletown and New Jersey Railway to sell it to another company. That word came Wednesday from Middletown Mayor Marlinda Duncanson, who said owner Chartwell International is going to conduct due diligence before announcing a buyer.
    Chartwell months ago announced its corporate mission had changed leaving it with no need to own and operate a railroad any longer.
    “We are staying engaged with the current owners to make sure the transition occurs in a manner most conducive to its ongoing service to our community,” said Duncanson. She said the state has demonstrated its support for the rail line with a track improvement grant.
    “As mayor of Middletown, I am leading an effort to engage with the Town of Wawayanda, Orange County, the State of New York and local businesses in a collaborative effort to support the long-term vitality of the Middletown and New Jersey Railway.”
    She said there is an opportunity to create new jobs and tax revenue by attracting businesses that make a positive impact on the city’s neighborhoods.
