alright, i got Model Railroad Craftsman magazine this past year and my subscription is running out. I was just wondering what some of the favorites were, maybe something N scale specific since i found many how-to articles really work a lot better for larger scales and there are many things, specifically scenery-wise i havent a clue to go about doing thanks in advance -NUTEY-
There are two scale-specific magazines, "N Scale" and "N Scale Railroading" There is also Model Railroader and the aforementioned RMC. Mainline modeler, I believe, has finally folded. What other model magazines still exist? Is Railmodel Journal (?) still kicking? Anything else in the American scene?
I highly recommend N scale Railroading as my N scale magazine of preferred choice however I am biased having several articles published in the magazine. The January / February edition has just been released and is available from Feather River Trains Jan / Feb edition
I recommend, for the N enthusiast, "N Scale Railroading." It's by far the best of the two N specific magazines. The other, "N Scale Magazine," has been declining in quality the past few years and now has a new owner. I can't recommend "N Scale" because I haven't seen the new owner's first issue. It hasn't arrived at my LHS; it used to before the sale. By the way, I've surfed the Internet looking for "N Scale" and all I find is the outdated site of the former owner, Hundmann Publishing. I'd like to see a copy of the mag before deciding whether to subscribe. I subscribe to "Model Railroader" and, though it has little N specific articles, it provides good reading for modelers in any scale. I recommend MR, too.
John, get a copy of N Scale. I recently picked one up at my LHS and it's a total day and night difference! All color pages, interesting articles, not the upteenth article on how to build a tree or trestle. N Scale Railroading has more layout pictures and articles while N Scale has more of a mix with how-to's, electric circuits, etc. I don't subscribe to either but rather pick them up at the LHS (my excuse to go to the store!). After having seen the first revamped issue of N Scale I'm leaning towards a subscription to that. Both mags are great now.
N Scale Magazine is in an ascendency. The first issue after ownership change had articles from two of our members.
I picked up NSR at a LHS today and even one of the employees who models in those other scales was telling everyone how great this issue is.
sweetness, i wasnt sure what other mags were out there, ill have to get some and compare, thanks for the input everyone hey Colonel, what about those cell phone towers made to look like trees?? -NUTEY-
The "Have A Go" article is on pages 46 and 47. Two pictures on page 46 and four pictures on page 47. Also, the cover photo is amazing and people could not believe that it is N Scale.
Colonel- I can't check anything at all now. Entire basement finally demolished, electrician coming in Monday and Tuesday to wire. Coffin was built around and above layout to protect it from demo damage and all magazines buried so deep in the boiler/laundry area that I don't even know where they are. Nolan can surely help.
this caught my eye. there are actual cell phone towers made to look like trees along I-25 at Monument Pass (north of Colorado Springs, CO). they are very well done, but when you notice them you clearly see them for what they are. on the west side of I-25 -- the tallest trees at the top of the hill. the "trunk" is clearly straight and true steel when you get a glimpse of it. i wonder if anyone has take a picture yet. maybe i will, if there's any interest. dave f.
yea on the pic. hopefully ill be getting a camera in a few days..wink wink there are some around here too, ill try to steal my brothers camera for a few, would make an interesting addition, i think -NUTEY-
