While looking for a map of NSW I stumbled across this site Australian Rail Maps It is a comprehensive site showing all known rail lines. Here is one of the maps which you can click on for further detail.
Here is a map of the Sydney Metropolitan railway that I work on. The area that I am partly responsible for all signalling is Mcdonaldtown to Lidcombe then all the way to Macarthur including the Bankstown and East Hills lines.
Paul - what is the population of Sydney and roughly what is the geographical spread in miles of the built up area, N-S and E-W? Ben
Population of Sydney is approx 6 million. The geogrphical area would be approx 50km radius of Sydney city
Paul: Great map! I have never been able to find a combined rail/ferry map like that. I am probably not looking in the right place. But, I am at the Circular Quay where the station is pretty substantial. Seems like I should be able to get all the information there. I rode the bus last week to Watson's Bay. Great location to see the start of the Sydney-Hobart race. Lots and lots of others knew that, too. Great time had by all.
Flash, you could have also caught the ferry to Watsons Bay but yes it is a very popular place. Did you buy some fish and chips (fries) from Doyles? It is world famous for it's fresh seafood.
Thank you Paul - but what is that in proper measurements (i.e. miles) please; we do not measure in foreign measurements in England; we use Imperial measurements; miles and chains. Ben
Paul: The ferries did not run on boxing day during the race start. I am not sure what time that was, but they were not running when I went, so that is why I took the bus. The ferry is much easier. No fish and chips at Doyle's. I went by there a bunch of times, but I did not know about the fare or the three levels of bars. I will do better next time.
Flash, If you are still in Sydney let us know, maybe Paul & you could come & visit our club rooms.Would only be too glad to do,maybe even have a bit of a run.
