Can someone let me know what marking requirements were in place for auto
    trailers in the 1960's?

I have some very poor photographs of auto trailers running on the Milwaukee Road
in that time, but cannot read what markings there were.

On one, I can read one reporting number 5244 [with no lettering], but no other
information is legible. There appears to be additional information on the rear
of the trailer, in a blacked area.

On another I can read a manufacturer's label [Stuart Transport Engineering,
Romulus Michigan] and a running number that seems to be PLWZ [which is General
Electric Rail Services Corporation and that does not seem right] - so advice of
what reporting numbers would be appropriate for the time period on Milw would be
    very useful.

If anyone has access to Donald Wood's book 'New Car Carriers 1900-1998' I would
like to know if there is more detail in there, too.

    Many thanks

    Peter
