Back in 2002 I was curious about these buildings myself. Here's the info that I got on these buildings from Tom Schmidt at Walthers Customer Service. "There is an interesting story behind the one-piece, Z scale, American buildings now being offered by Marklin and illustrated on page 308 in the Walthers 2002 N/Z Reference Book (#913-242), however. I've recently found out that Walthers originally developed these structures and sold the rights to Marklin. In fact, John Harbeck of our New Product Develop- ment department, was involved in this project sometime in the 1980's. John worked with Bob Lunde of Magnuson Models and later came to work for Walthers when the Magnuson product line was acquired. According to John, the Marklin Z scale "store fronts" structure (#441-2640) is based on the early Magnuson Merchants Row I kit, offered by Walthers in styrene as part of the CORNERSTONE SERIES (#933-3028) in HO and in N by Period Miniatures (#555-535). Walthers sold the HO and N scale Magnuson structure line to a company called JAKS Industries, who markets the HO line under their SS Ltd label and the N scale line under Period Miniatures. This is the only Z scale structure based on a Walthers CORNERSTONE SERIES model that I'm aware of." What I also found out is that they are a little smaller than actual Z scale (1:220) I believe they come in at 1:240. John Bartolotto
Thanks, but it says " store fronts" than i am wondering, what is behind the buldings???? I think i am going to buy 2 of them.
The rears are modeled as well and the 2 sides. I sliced through mine with a Zona saw. http://zcentralstation.com/modules/xcgal/albums/userpics/10120/Zlayout29.jpg
I think they look good after some paiting..... The buldings is a bit hard to paint but it is ok. But it is not as nice as brass , but mutch cheaper! I also added some flags, and a fire escape... PS: sorry for bad pic`s
Looks good Henrik. The flags are great. We just had our national Flag Day last week on 14 JUNE. ;-) Randy
