Have you cleaned the brushes and the motor lately? I clean mine about once a month or so, the difference in running is truely amazing go to www.ztrains.com It has a step by step breakdown of how to do it. Then after that clean the wheels and you'll be happy with the results.

I made a tool from a cloth pincher? (klesklype) so that I could easier clean the wheels off my locomotives. This usually helps on my locomotives.

I tried to add wheel wipers to the other 2 drivers on one of mine, but it made little difference because those 2 drivers don't touch the rails very much due to Marklin poor design. I ended up converting mine to DCC, and adding a bank of capacitors in the tender. That fixed the pickup problem, but requires DCC.

I add tender pickup to all my Marklin engines. It takes a little work but it can be done.
