I've seen some layouts which use gravel fine ballast alongside the borders of the Rokuhan roadbed to blend the track in with the scenery more, even though there is a gray plastic gravel-looking base. What gray ballast matches this best? Does anyone have experience with this?
I have Noch 09174 in stock: http://zscalehobo.com/noch/ho_n_all_numbers.html 15 items down the page. I have a closer (foggy, though) image here: https://www.facebook.com/zscalehobo...9096151756790/288499511483119/?type=3&theater John Cubbin at Raildig did a feature on adding ballast to Kato HO & N and Rokuhan Z and he found that Kato ballast works, but is more expensive than my Noch offering. See his article here: http://www.raildig.com/useful-tools/kato-unitrack-ballast-for-ho-n-z-scale/ Aha. Here is a tweet that John posted showing the Rokuhan and Kato products side-by-side: https://twitter.com/Raildig/status/736808767791235072/photo/1
The Raildig website has information on Kato Unitrack Ballast. http://www.raildig.com/useful-tools/kato-unitrack-ballast-for-ho-n-z-scale/ I am just passing this on, it is not something that I have used. Sorry, just seen that z.scale.hobo has just posted the same information, but I do not know how to delete my post. Rob Pearce (aka ViperBugloss)
I used woodland scenics fine lt gray ballast on my track. I only did the sides. I think it is pretty close.
