THE METRO NORTH IS HOLDING IT'S ANNUAL OPEN HOUSE AT CROTON-HARMON ON SAT. OCT. 20TH. IT'S AN EXCELLENT SHOW.
Hey Johnnie, we both put new topics up at about the same time. Wish I was there to go to the Metro North open house. Do you know if they will have the NYC painted E units there?
Gee Fitz, I'm not sure. My friend sent me a flyer just yesterday. I get these things with kinda short notice. I'm trying to remember if they were there last year, just got too much on my already fried brain. LOL. I know there were some E units there painted in Metro North colors, and New Haven colors. I just can't remember! It always is a great show. This will be about my 5th visit! they always give away cool stuff too! If I knew someone to ask, I would. I may be able to find out. i will try! I'll let you know! Wish you could be there! I think 6000 people showed up last year, BEFORE NOON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! John
I believe that the highlight of this year should be the new NH Gennies. Unfortunately I am also unable to attend. Anyone here going be sure to take some pics Russ Hoffman Valley RR My New York & Atlantic Site
Ah man! Wish you guys could make it. Rush, have you gone before? The Metro North goes all out for the fans. The Gens were there last year too. I like the wrecking crew demos. They used to actually flip over an old boxcar and re-right it. LOL. Last year it was cool, but not as exciting. They just set one end down off it's trucks. Then put it back. No BIG BANG! LOL! John
Oh man!!!!!!!!!!!! The Metro North went all out! The place was stinkin' with FL-9'S AND 10'S! The whole roster must have been there, in the shop building and out in the yards! The Genesis units in New Haven colors were EXCELENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There were great demos from the wrecking crew! Also there were lots of free give-aways for the kids and adults! What an amazing crowd too. There were several large shuttle buses hadling the crowds from the station to the yard. it was great! THANK YOU METRO NORTH RR!
Hi Johnny, Glad to hear that you had a good time. Probably took your mind off things of late. I hope that you got some pics of them FL-9's because we do not know how much longer they are going to be around! Happy Railroading! Russ Hoffman Valley RR
Rush, I was just to tired to lug my camera.... Thank goodness my buddy had brought his video camera. I'm waitng for him to make me a copy of the tape. Of course we had to have fun too, like my buddy wearing one of those paper Amtrak hats the kids wear. All freakin' day! And he sends these tapes back to his friends and relatives in Spain......... No wonder they never venture here! My friend and I grew up together yet never grew up at all! Oh Fitz, I think it was you that asked me if any of the New York Central F's would be there. There was only one. NICE! Sadly, the old F's in New Haven colors are showing signs of weathering. Guess they are heading to museums soon. I hope so anyway! Also, there are cool things such as trucks, fire fighting equipment, all the good machines a big RR shop has, displays and all around good natured people. I won a metal coffee stein in a raffle, and I freaked when I saw my name on it! LOL! I think the Metro North guy behind the table got a charge out of my surprise! That's what makes it all worth while! Railroaders are good folk. Damn good folk.

Don't worry.......he made me take his picture with it on............... I forgot to tell you.......There were two nice lady condutors at the train platform in GCT. One took our ticket after we left. After the stop at 125th St., a guy walked by us, and a minute later the other conductor was asking us for our tickets! THE GUY SWIPED OUR TICKETS OFF THE BACK OF OUR SEAT! Luckily the conductors went right after him. I heard them say they were going to kick him off at the next station, but I saw him pull out some money. They let him go. He was about 6'3" and at least 270 if not more. I'm ashamed of myself for not catching it but the tickets were behind my head and my friend and I were having some good laughs about his recent divorce! LOL!

LOL!

Could the divorce be a result of his fondness for wearing paper hats? (LOL -just kidding!) Here is a link that was forwarded to me ,for those of us like myself who weren't able to attend. Croton Harmon Open House. Russ Hoffman Valley RR
Ha ha ha! If you knew my friend Joe........ Thanks for the link! I'm going to check it out right now! Hope our other friends will look too! John
Russ, Nice shots there. I sure can tell you they were taken the night before or the morning of. There was a constant long line to get into the Genesis. It took me 10 minutes to walk through a GP35. You can imagine the line for the modern locos. That Brookfield switcher said it was built in 2000. I'm still thinking it was a rebuild. Anyone know about that? It sure looked like an old 44 Tonner or similar. They did have a few old ones around. Sometimes you could see one parked in the tunnels of GCT. Even though I've been there 5 times or so, I can't wait until next year. John
