How many people here use Micro-Track? Is it a good thing to use for a small, starter Z Scale layout? Charlie
Quick answer to your question is "yes" It goes together easily, saving time and looks pretty good also. The only drawback I see is that you are faced with having fixed radius and that limits track plan variations. Other than that, you can be up and running fairly quickly. Loren
Also yes, I used it to make a test loop layout. Quick, stable, easy to clean and good quality. I would not use for diorama level, but except this, it is top.
Here is a picture of the new track on my new layout. I think if you paint and ballast it it can be made to look rather good.
i'm going to use it on my whole layout. i want reliable main lines and switches. i also plan to ballast to improve it. dave f.
Moin, moin Charlie, It's the first track for a quick layout on the carpet ! I did not have a layout, but I collected the track for a future layout. Now I miss the bumper, crossing, a straight track 220 mm and some bigger radius (> r = 220 mm) curves. By my mind, the MTL track is much better then the Marklin one ! Thanks guys, and welcome aboard Rolf. Are there any track plans floating around? What size do you recommend a small layout be? 2 X 4, 3 X 6? Charlie
The track is great. Watch the turnouts. I have had too much trouble [These were in the first shipment, and I don't know the status of the current turnouts]. Trouble consists of different heights within the turnout. Also I have found at least one where the loco engines wheels are shorting on the rail as the opening gage is too narrow. The Flex mixes real well with the preformed ballast by using a layer of cork under the Flex. After you ballast you can not tell one type from the other. ...don
But generally, it is safe to say that it goes together easily and you can be up and running quickly? Charlie
Yes, it goes together very quickly, runs excellent, and can be taken down over and over again. I have some 20-24 turnouts, and only two have givin me any trouble. They are "hot" frogs, so you don't need to insulate. I even have custom made certain pieces to fit my track plan. Price is resonable too. My hats of to Joe D., I think the system is great. But thats just one guys opinion...
I'm possibly looking at a situation where I *might* (nothing certain yet) be looking at living for a number of months in a dormitory type location if I get sent for long-term job training. I don't know that this will happen at all but I am already thinking that I might be able to have a small layout, then be able to bring it home with me at the end. I will want a couple of locomotives and some boxcars and cabooses. I would try to do something with a 40's or 50's feel I guess. Charlie
I am also planning a portable layout. Similar to lugguage, I'll be putting mine in a 12" by 48" gun case.
Excellent. I was thinking of some small benchwork that could be disassembled later and brought home. I would like to pack as much action into it as possible. So with this pack 45 degree Curved Track r195mm you could take it around in 12 inches? Charlie
I'm learning Z scale as well. (converting from N) If I understand correctly, 12 inches is really too tight for continous running. Thats why mine was going to be a switching layout. With 2x4 you could do it though.
