This is a very popular Russian military train "Pe-Ge-Er-Ka" with long distance intercontinental rocketes. It masked into Refregirators( for meat) train. Are there any models or prototype's photos of military trains from other countries?
We were working on a train too, but the collapse of the Soviet Union ended the experiment and the train was scrapped.
Yes, there are lot such refregirator trains in Russia, which transport russian meat "govjadina"(beaf), "porosjatina"(pork), "Ryba" (fish) et al. The one unit consist of 4 very long refregirator car, and one short intermediate motor car with refregirator's diesel. In military train: 4 long cars transport 4 heavy 150 tonn rocketes , and 1 short car has a computer, operating room and the same diesel. Military train has the same dimensions and the same color, and there is nothing who can separate military train from refregirator's ones.
It's things like that that I find most interesting - how different railways around the world handle things just a bit differently. I guess the advantage of that setup is simplified maintenance.
In the USA, Minuteman Rail Garrison was designed for Minuteman ICBMs, and Peacekeeper Rail Garrison was projected, but never deployed, as a Peacekeeper ICBM launch vehicle. http://www.nationalmuseum.af.mil/factsheets/factsheet.asp?id=788 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGM-30_Minuteman#Mobile_Minuteman_program.5B14.5D Rail-based ICBM's are deployed for survivability. When national tensions rise, they are dispersed onto a rail network. Ground-based silos are easy to target, but mobile launchers are nearly impossible to track. Targeting each one would be a herculean effort, and attempts to destroy each would require a large waste of weapons. If you can't find it, you can't destroy it.
