Just decided to have a look at every forum, whether 'lit up' or not. Arriving here, reminded me that my only contact with the Milwaukee Road was an SD40 seen at Sault Ste. Marie, MI in 1985 amongst some SOO locomotives. Was this around the time of the merger? ------------------ Alan www.ac-models.com http://Andersley.homestead.com http://galleryusarail_tehcaj.homestead.com http://eurogallery.homestead.com [This message has been edited by Alan (edited 04 April 2000).]
Although the exact date excapes my memory, the Milwaukee Road was merged into the Soo Line in 1985. I'd imagine that when you saw the Milwaukee unit in Sault Ste. Marie the merger had already taken place since they never operated that far east in Michigan. Maybe someone else here can enlighten us to the exact date of the merger.
Thanks Brian, the date we were there was Late May '85 ------------------ Alan www.ac-models.com http://Andersley.homestead.com http://galleryusarail_tehcaj.homestead.com http://eurogallery.homestead.com
According to The Historical Guide to North American Railroads, Second Edition, the Soo Line purchased the Milwaukee Road in February 1985, and merged it January 1, 1986.
Thanks, CR, that fits in with our sighting in Sault Ste. Marie. ------------------ Alan The perfect combination - BNSF and N Scale! www.ac-models.com http://Andersley.homestead.com http://galleryusarail_tehcaj.homestead.com http://eurogallery.homestead.com
