From the 4th Quarter 2000 Milwaukee Railroader:

"Canadian Pacific may do Heritage MILW unit"
Canadian Pacific is expected to announce that a Milwaukee Road-painted locomotive may join the ranks of CP's new Heritage Locomotive Program. Already the railroad has unveiled a pair of F-units in the celebrated old CP beaver scheme as well as a GP38-2 in the scripts CP lettering; a Delaware & Hudson units recently was released, restored to its revered "lightning stripe" livery. Now comes word that CP is considering doing a Milwaukee Road unit, possibly a GP40-2 wearing the "sprinting Hiawatha" lvery designed by MRHA's Art Danz many years ago.

Sure would love to see that! Every time I see an ex-Milwaukee in the Bandit scheme, I want to throw up. To bad they can't put it on one of their AC units. It would be nice to see how the future would be if they still were around.

How long did the EMD Bandit re-paints last? I model BN 1995 and think that a Bandit SD40-2 would be a nice run through unit. I do see SOO SD40-2 out here Western Washington so I guess I could do one of those to. But I would really prefer the EMD Bandit more and would like to do one if possible.

    Kevin,
All the MILW SD40-2's were returned or sold when leases ran out. The Milwaukee Road had a difficult time maintaining them during it's last days and CPR/SOO found them to be less than reliable. Since you are modeling 1995 you would be safe to use some - from "the SOO" Spring 1998 issue it looks like these units left the Soo starting in 1990 and a few hung on until 1996 - so you could letter them for the Soo or GSCX or Helm. If you are in HO Athearn has a special edition SD40-2 set with two SD40-2's (1pwr and 1 dmy) renumbered for GSCX - one in the Bandit paint and one in Soo hockey stick. They would be perfectly in place on your RR. (If you want some unit numbers let me know.)

However, there are still some bandits around on CPR/SOO. I saw one in Chicago in Sept 2000 on the branch line to Kingsbury. SOO 1561 - I think it's an MP 15C - I grabbed a blurry photo of it as proof.

Fortunetly I do not model in HO, I model in N scale so I would just be starting with a stock Kato Milw SD40-2. Thank you for the infor, I think I might try to bandit one or mabey do a Red/White Soo SD40-2. Haven't quite decided yet.
