OK folks, any one know what the recommended minimum radius for running a 4-8-4 is?? I have just put down an 11.5 radius run-around track. I am not necessarily planning on running the engine on the run-around (it is mainly designed to move cars while engines are on the tun-table), but it would be nice to know if I could !! A 4-8-4 would probably work on 11.5s, as long as you ran it slow. If you put it out on the main, the larger the better. Besides, a run-around to move cars should probably be used by a smaller engine, a 2-6-0 or 2-8-0 (or 0-6-0) for instance. ------------------ Corey Lynch Pres - Rensselaer Model RR Society, NEB&W RR http://www.rpi.edu/~lynchc/Railfanning/railfanning.htm - My Site http://www.union.rpi.edu/railroad/ - NEB&W
That is exactly what I am thinking, although I have not decided whether to move them with steam or something like an RS-1 . Either way, the engine(s) on the run-around need to be small. I am trying to go no less than 15" radius on any part of the main line . Thanks for the input Corey, and Happy Modeling!!
