I know that there are a lot of us interested in old mining operations, particularly narrow gauge and shortlines with colorful names, colorful locations, and colorful characters. I would like to invite all of you armchair historians, photograph collectors, rail-grade chasers, ferroequinologists, and other assorted mining railroad fans and experts to come join the Logging and Mining Fans and Modelers group here on TrainBoard.

As it is obvious to most, but was not so obvious to me until another member prodded me about it, there is a lot of cross-over between railroading in the wilderness for the purposes of logging and railroading in the woods for the purposes of mining. In fact, many railroads had both kinds of traffic, such as the Sumpter Valley in northeast Oregon. Please do consider coming to join us. Yes, there are a lot of modeling topics, but that's only because we haven't had more people posting prototype/history topics.

I model the Chehalis Western in N scale. I have the entire modern CW roster, with the exception of the C-415 #684 done. And the ONLY reason why I dont have one is there are none available in N scale. I have quite a roster of CW log cars (ex-MILW) and even some ex-BN cars making up my roster, a total of 68 of them. I have been fascinated with the RR ever since I got my first cab ride in one of the GP7s when I was about 6 years old.

I am new here so I hope I am posting this in the right place if not please forgive me. I hope you can help me. I am looking for photos, drawings, or post cards of the first train and first train station in Vidalia Ga. I need this as soon as you can as I have cancer and do not know how long I have. Thank you ahead of time for your help. I do remember a story about the first station being called Jenkins station only because it was named after a guy who worked there before Vidalia ga was incorparated. I also know that the Georgia Florida Line ran into Vidalia at some point from the south while another line runs east and west. Any photos at all would be gret.

    MINDBENDER,

I have pretty much no information on Vidalia. Would the station be the same as in the 1940s? If so, I found this:

    http://toombsnow.com/vidaliathen.html

Scroll down a little and you'll see whatever station was in Vidalia in the 1940s.

You might try posting in our Southern Railway Forum area. Or te Ready Track. Possibly more folks would see your inquiry there.
