Here's a total scratchbuilt mobile crane, the motor unit is a Tenshodo "Spud" and runs quite well. This unit stated life as a Class "A" cllimax, but I liked the idea of a crane on the front better.

Fascinating! Was there a prototype for your model? Or strictly freelanced? Looks great!

HO? A very nice (and unique) piece of motive power.

Unless my memory is faulty, he's an On30 modeler.

[IMG] That is beautiful! The scenery isn't that shabby either. Those poor figures are probably scared witless of that giant squirrel(that is a squirrel, right?).

I am amazed at the scenery on these O scale layouts. Amazing, indeed.

    But...where is the motor?

Flash, the motor is totally contained within the leading bogie (truck). It is a Tenshodo "spud" bogie. I recently used one to power a small OO scale Sentinel vertical boilered locomotive I finished for a friend. They run very smoothly, especially when adequately weighted. (The Sentinel has a cast whitemetal body).
