Here are some images of a scratch built model, in 0 scale, of a UP caboose, which I acquired this week. I have no idea if this is a model of an actual UP prototype and whether the livery, numerals and detailing are correct and was hoping that you UP experts out there might have some comments. I am not worried if the model is inaccurate or is even a complete fantasy on the part of the modeller - I like it fine as it is but would nevertheless be interested to know if there was an actual real prototype that it is based on. Looking forward to hearing any information anyone might have. Ben NB - Sorry, due to a technical hitch the photos are not here but they will follow soon. B.
While this is indeed a beautifully done model, I don't think it represents an actual UP design. The CA-1 class UP wood cabooses date back to about 1910. There is a photo of an HO (brass) model at this URL http://www.modeltrains.com/brass-omi/images/omi-0799.1-1.jpg and a photo of a prototype CA-1 at this URL (the side door was a later modification and is the only one I have seen like this) http://utahdepot.railfan.net/caboose/up_ca1_25766_a.JPG DB
