Anybody seen one in the flesh yet? They look too cute (yes, I know I'm not supposed to use that word :D ) in the pictures...

I broke down and ordered one a few minutes ago. Some of our favorite pushers have pix up.

I confess to falling for cute.

I've got an undec version on order with an option on a B & O model as well if they're any good. I thought I'd have heard from the dealer by now but still haven't. Perhaps Gregg/ 3rd rail, who has really had his finger on the pulse of the project, can cast some light on what's happening.

If I can duck out of work early on Friday and MP is open its normal 12-4, I will scoot over there and get an idea when and what they are shipping. They are located about 3-5 miles from my home.

Mark, while you are at Model Power, would you mind asking about the 2-6-0 Mogul? I've had one on reserve since they were announced last winter.

    Thanks

Most certainly. It was going to be on my list of questions, in any event.

I hope they've improved the wipers on this loco.

They say they Have all wheel pickup, but I've heard that acknowledgment before.

Stay cool and run steam....... [IMG]

For your sake, I hope this MP loco can pull more than 8-10 cars . ;)

Thanks for the good wishes, Bob.

Actually, I only own one B&M passenger car and two milk reefers at the moment. I do have several MT troopers set aside to become baggage cars, buggies, and whatnot, but right now, I just have the one open-platform coach.

This little 4-4-0 just needs to be able to amble into the junction with a baggage car and coach, turn on the wye, back into the station, drop off the passenger cars so the platform traffic (passengers, mail & express) can be worked, run up the other leg of the wye to slake its thirst, back onto the loaded train, pump up the air, and be ready to depart on time.

Sometimes there may be a milk car or two, and these will need to be set out or picked up at the R&CC - B&M interchange track. If it can handle more than two passenger cars both forward and reverse, I will be thrilled.

I have other power to handle my "long" trains - the ones with 5 or 6 cars. :D

I'm glad you have other "power" for your "long" trains of 5-6 cars.

This 4--4-0 looks quite delicate to me. I hope it does perform reasonably well.

I'm not thrilled with adding traction tires to this MP loco.

Adding a decoder to this loco is easy as all four wires are sitting in the tender as was the case with the 4-6-2 and 2-8-2.

Delicate is a good word for it. There are broken things evident in one of the photos put up on one of the pusher's sites. Not good.

I understand the Shay is delicate too.

We begged for these smaller locos, though, and it is probably hard for the designers and manufacturers to make such small details reasonably "to scale" and still have them stand up to much handling.

We will know pretty soon, won't we?

I'm supposed to be finishing up a spec for a customer, but I keep seeing the Cranberry arrive at Rockport Junction behind a small steam loco, and that carefully choreographed ballet necessary to turn that train, water it, load it, and get it out on time keeps playing in my head. (see prior post)

While there were a few exceptions (notably the one ke is building) the average 'modern' eight-wheeler was good for two or three steel passenger cars and maybe an express box car or milk car; the last usually wood.

If this thing will pull two full size RR (or Lima/MP) HWs and an MDC express car or a MT express car, I will be satisfied.

Assuming that the drivers are 'live', a traction tyre would probably be a bad idea as it would severely compromise the electrical pick up.

I'm looking forward to the MP B&M Mogul. As far as traction, if it can handle 3 passenger cars on a 2% grade that's fine with me. To my knowledge, B&M never had more than four behind them, usually two or three. [IMG]

Same here. I don't anticipate pulling any more than 3 50' cars- Probably most usually only a combine and a coach. The third car would be a full baggage I have been working on (if I don't make a hash of it!). I 've seen the photos of the American, and my only real concern it that it should have reliable slow speed performance. I'm still surprised that I have not gotten the call from woo woo woo. Must be delayed again???
