I am thinking about a modelling a cemetery. Does anyone have any experience at this or layout photos they can share? Any suggestion? Are there any detail parts available? What options are there for creating tombstones and stone walls?
Hello, and welcome to TrainBoard What an unusual question Never really gave it any thought, but I would think tombstones could be easily made in styrene. For inspiration, why not visit a local cemetery? If you do get a cemetery built, please take pics and show us here
First, Welcome to Trainboard...I think you will like it here, lots of great folk . In terms of the cemetary, I have modeled one in HO, but not N (yet) . I know that Woodland Scenics makes crosses and tombstones in HO but do not know if they are available in N. I have a pic of the HO cemetary on my website at http://www.jstrainstation.homestead.com You might also try the woodland scenics website for detail parts in N http://www.woodlandscenics.com Hope this helps !! John
RATIO of Britain has photo-etched tombstones in the Brit. n-scale of 1:148, lots of different styles and details.
this is the coolest thing to have on a layout other than mopac engines but really, a little plug here for neals n gauging trains he has gravestones from pd marsh they run about $4 for 25 castings and then road apples used to have a hearse resin kit, if you get on ebay under hearse they are always listed on there. it is an older hearse from 1958 and also bachmann done some old caddies for its autorack back in the early 80's that can be painted like a hearse but really crude looking though. also road apples made lincoln limosines and vans for flower cars. don't forget the ghq backhoe and vault company truck.
As far as I can tell, a cemetary is little more then a great chaos of many different sized and shaphed stones, none quite level with each other(unless it is a military cemetary), and at different angles.
Too bad you couldn't fit little "Disney Haunted Mansion" style epitaphs on the tombstones in N - "Here lies good old Fred; A great big rock fell on his head." The Haunted Mansion is the second best thing at The Magic Kingdom. (Second only to the train of course.)
