I asked for photos and you provided. I now see you have a major challenge for moving cars that wasn't obvious looking at the diagram, at least for me.
I'm digging what you have going on. There are definitely challenges to moving cars and locomotives around. Good use of space and once there's some scenery down it's gonna be awesome. Great job!
Thanks, txronharris, I have attempted many layouts and never progressed very far. This is the closest to a functioning layout I've gotten. Working on some of the buildings and planning some scenery for the first time in my life. Will post pics if I actually accomplish anything!
Here is the revised plan that more accurately reflects how it was built. Modified Time Saver Layout (revised) by Doorgunnerjgs posted Nov 6, 2016 at 9:13 PM
Hopefully last revision to plan. Modified Time Saver Layout (with Engine Yard) Revision 2 by Doorgunnerjgs posted Nov 13, 2016 at 12:00 AM
Although I haven't had any problems since my last medical crapola in April, I kinda lost the desire to do much model railroading and thus no updates here or in the weekly accomplishments threads. That has recently changed and have been cleaning up my work area and getting back to trains. THEN last night my wife suggested that I take back my 10'x20' train room that had been converted into her office and craft room and move out of the 12'x12' room that has a closet across one whole wall. Whoo Hoo! Now the plans have changed and I'm going to get my 13 year old layout back from storage in my son's garage. For details, see my edited intro to this blog and the first entry with layout plans. It will probably be several weeks to move and retrieve stuff, but it definitely has energized me (at least mentally)! Looking forward to good times!
Here are the plans and an old picture of the layout that I will somehow connect with my TimeSaver layout.
Figured out a way to integrate the two layouts (though both will probably be modified more) with a new bridging module with turntable. The Woodland Scenics HO Scale Grand Valley Layout was further modified when built but until I get it back, I don't know the exact layout since I never put it into Cadrail. There is another spur from the left loop into the right loop for a passenger station. Thoughts would be appreciated.
State of chaos after 4 months of sorting, cleaning, and prep for future combined layouts. Only the one has been temporarily emplaced and much still needs to moved and arranged. Here are pics from July and today to show the mess. Hopefully the first piece of the former layout will be picked up from my son's garage this weekend with an eye to determining if should be raised further than it was. First in July when it still was my wife's office/craft room. And as of today.
A fine mess! No really, a nice big mess is a sign of exuberant hobbyism! As long as nothing biological in nature is involved and its a safe mess as far as one's health, its all good!
Finally got my trains running again today even though the room is still a mess. Got a lot of my wife's craft, genealogy, and office stuff to get out here! But at least I can now play a little!
Finally a little progress. Got my 3x5 layout top (part of an 8x5 total layout) from son's house today after it being in storage for years. Got it home, ready to put on table. And actually got it remounted on table with little hassle. I was surprised! To get an idea of how the old layout portion looks, this is a composite of two pics of the table tops.
Time to start preparing to get the 5x5 portion of the layout. I used scrap pieces of wood and left over l-girder sections to tie the two sections together. I was amazed that my rudimentary labeling was more than adequate to mount the connecting sections to the first table as easily as it happened. Here are the connectors sorted for mounting. By putting the screws in place with just the tips exposed, it was easy to align the pieces for mounting. This shows the other side of the extension with the markings that made it easy to reassemble. All the extensions mounted. Can't imagine doing this with a regular screwdriver. Love this one except it is too easy to hit the direction buttons by accident. What I particularly like is the ability to go from straight to 90 degrees in (I believe) 30 degree increments.
Used two pics of my larger layout to create a composite picture of it. And then used it and Cad Rail to draw the layout and add it to the train room drawing. Have a problem in that there is currently a desk in the lower left portion of the room and there is no room to get by it to the area behind the layout. Decisions/decisions!
Swapped the layouts so as to fit it in with the furniture that needs to be there. Will also need further revision to lengthen the run around on the TimeSaver portion and do something with the "F" and "C" spurs to eliminate the switchback scenario.
So now I've revised both layout sections based on some input from others and now am planning on going with this multi-revised plan. The section to the left is no longer a TimeSaver layout, but I think it will work better.
Think this might be the last revision to the former TimeSaver portion of the layout. Seems like this might work best.
