Hey guys I am a new member and I must say yall have a great board...lots of info. I actually have a specific question if anyone can help me out. I am a student at the College of Charleston and I am writing my senior thesis on the Moncks Corner ACL Depot for the Historic preservation department. Its actually a national register nomination for the Depot. I have compiled some information and im part way through the nomination form; however I cannot find out several facts about the depot..most importantly when it was last used by an actual rail co. Did CSX use the depot in the 80's? I know it was in use at least untill 72' because i found a photo dated 72' but the photo looked a lot older. Anyhow if you guys have any information about the moncks corner depot at all please let me know. I am working under some pretty tight time constraints and I will be submitting this nomination sometime monday or tuesday so if you guys have any info that would be awesome! Thanks and I love the board. You can email me directly at bkbeard@g.cofc.edu
Welcome to TrainBoard! Have you tried the Railroad Station Historical Society? Perhaps someone there can help with leads to those answers you require. www.rrshs.org Boxcab E50
03 MAY 2011 Good morning BKBEARD. I can not tell you much about the operating years (open for business) of the Moncks Corner Depot, however at this link are a number of pictures. Pictures can tell a lot about time periods. TopCities Free Hosting For Everyone Larry @ SCRS
BKBeard - Welcome to Trainboard. Saw your request several days ago but was reluctant to reply because that end of the ACL I only transitted by rail several times. Do remember that during he ACL years ('til 07.01.67) that it was a regular stop for one of ACL's passenger trains and a flag or conditional stop for at least two more. During SCL years my one available TT shows Moncks Corner as a stop for trains 85/86 (south and northbound sections of the "Everglades) and a flag-stop for #76 (the northbound "Gulf Coast Special"). Apologize that I can't provide more info but during my active railfanning years (up to about Amtrak) my forays were pretty much in the western end of Charleston County.
I am not sure if CSX still has any "use" of the depot, but I suspect it is all leased out and they do not use it any more. Harold
