    Hello everyone:

I was wondering if any of our skilled weathering artisans would like to take up the task of coordinating a "Weathering Project of the Month" on this board. I envision it would become a sticky at the top of the Z-scale forum so that it was always easy to find. I was thinking of this style of organization:

This workshop would be for everyone, with an emphasis on teaching others how to weather and thus each project would be completed slowly over the entire month. This allows the current weathering guru to have time to write nice explanations of the next steps, take pictures, post them, etc., and it provides the modelers time to work -- especially those of us that still don't have the luxury of retirement!

    Here's a suggested schedule:

    1. Last week of previous month: next project announced, supply list given. This allows people the chance to get the model if they don't have it -- or find something similar. For example, you might say "any MTL tank car, airbrush, acrylics in these colors..., a #X brush for drybrushing, etc. Hint: That's a blatant plug for the December project to be a tank car. I've tried and tried and tried and just don't like the results I'm getting.

    2. Remaining weeks split up into three segments by the current month's coordinator. It's hard to predict what each week would need to be. Maybe some projects require disassembly while others can start with a base spraycoat, etc. But imagine the project broken into thirds: maybe base weathering, rough detailing, fine detailing?

    3. To keep the material easy to find, the postings should be kept to a minimum. Otherwise the normal banter could mean pages of searching to find the posts. Questions about the technique in the workshop -- yes, answers from the weathering guru yes, answers from others --- maybe not. Let the current guru run his/her workshop. In other words, controlled interaction to keep the material clean and easy to find. This could also lead to a reasonably readable text that could be publishable in Z-track for example with some minor tweaking.

    4. The weathering guru can change. I'm not suggesting one person has to do this forever. I'm just hoping some folks will want to share their skills in this more formal way. Almost like attending a Z-convention workshop.

    ---

What do you think? I think this could be a great way to help increase the knowledge base of Z-scalers, provide an excellent introduction to an important modeling skill for current and future Z-scalers that join this forum, and provide lots of fun during the Winter modeling season!

Unfortunately, my weathering skills are insufficient to author a first month. As I said earlier, I'm hoping to learn from the artisans in our community and I'm really hoping for December to be a TANK CAR! :tb-wink:

I would like to do it, but I work in a sweatshop, and getting 32 minutes away from the place is out of the question for me and 3 other people. All 250 other employees are enjoying 9 days of rest and relaxation for the holiday, then will come back stormtrooping Monday 26th, and ride our beaten down backs with renewed vigor!

Let's find Tom Mann, he has the skills that kills the competetion! :D
