Hi everyone; I am trying to find out what cars I can use with the least amount of conversion and paint for the Missouri Pacific (Blue/Gray or Jenks Blue). I am modeling a period spread over 20 years (1950 - 1969). My layout design, so far, has 15" radius min. Thanks for all your help Mophead
Hi Eagle2, I went to the Marshall Shops website and saw some interesting items, however, they really don't explain much about these 'kits'. If you've purchased some of these from Marshall Shops, could you please describe the material used and if it is a complete kit, with interiors, trucks couplers etc...?
They're complete kits, based on the American Limited core kits. The floor, roof and ends are injection molded plastic. The sides are a clear plastic with masking tape overlays in place which are pre-cut for masking the paint. The instructions are pretty clear and very complete on how to unmask/remask in order to paint the car sides. Decals are included with the kits, including for the cream colored stripes in the more recent runs. Two problems to note, both more related to the core kits. The trucks come as a bolster and two sideframes you're supposed to glue together. I've found that MT trucks work a lot better. Also, the instructions provide no guidance on underbody parts (air tanks, brake, air conditioners and the like). You have to refer to prototype photos to get these pieces placed.
