I have seen a few auctions where folks restrict participation as noted. But I never figured out how they did it, and the rule crazy enforcers there didn't object.
Humour. Not pricing. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lionel-726-2426w-Pre-War/261624275133?_trksid=p2054897.c100204.m3164& First run 726....bulb smoker and all. Stored for 50 years. Current bid, $98....good deal..except..... About half of that is the two full cans of gloss clear paint they doused the unit in. And couldn't get that extra special homemade tin can rusty drawbar shined up. Not sure what the rear coupler is...looks like it just might be from the same tin can....only missing one set of tender wheels.....but look at the shine on the driver tyres......they sprayed everything! Full strip and respray...get the leaning 726 on the cab side fixed while at it...
http://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-LIONEL...335702?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item3f3eab07d6 Unruned. No idea what that means. Highly interesting seller claims it's all from a 74-year-old collection. And it's all new..styrofoam boxes, all part numbers start with 6-. Starting bid of 3K sounds a tad high.
I was thinking more along the lines of dumbonics..... These days if a person wishes to learn, (to read, write, speak), the North American variant of English, they'd need to go to Russia, or China, or Japan....
I nearly bought the entire General Set for a bit more than just this horse car! http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lionel-1877...360384?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item1e932f2940
Still high, but starting bid of thirty bucks: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lionel-1877-Horse-Car-4-horses/321548433867?_trksid=p2047675.c100009.m1982 No bids.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lionel-Trains-mid-1940s-/111488294163?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item19f5385d13 Price is not too bad...IF the stuff wasn't a find in a damp basement. Moron thinks a 665 is mid-40's. 54-58. Beat up, corroded, rusted badly, bent up, no way to determine internal condition...see the motorized unit? Seller does say missing some parts...yeah, right. I am particularly enamored of the remains of the track bumper. The destroyed MARX handcar is neat. This is what it should look like: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Marx-0-Scal...338696?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item1e92c404c8 The 248 engine...well....it IS pre-war...but will need a full strip, paint and restoration. Three dome tanker is a mess...paint all chipped, wheelset missing, badly corroded sideframe...same with the two-dome. Twenty bucks for parts.
Basement is correct. In a forgotten corner behind the washing machine. Too bad the M&St.L box car was buried in mud. I have a soft spot for that RR.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Lio...696274?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item27ee893e12 Really bad. Beat up, in pieces, not sure I'd want to plug that power supply in and trust it not to burn the house down. BIN 150......geez. 1947 black 221 with 221W tender...but the NYC decals are GONE...truck broken, wheels gone, valve gear bent up and all rusted... Parts...five bucks.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lionel-Tran...929764?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item35de4e2464 This is the best deal, by far, I have ever seen on the bait. Truly marvelous. Only ninety-nine cents with no bids. Hurry!
Now....same basic set for $750. Better. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lionel-6-11...412177?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item43d111c791
at the Lionel Factory in 1954...makes it worth a BUNCH. Of course I have no proof...you just have to believe me...."
