It's right under the Title and Item Condition; I'm assuming that this is if there are any offers. The Chessie loco has 11 offers at this writing... going back to December of 2011. Seems to me that there is no inclination on the part of the seller to get a clue, er, I mean, take advice on what the item's generally accepted value might be.

I am wondering why those items need to be "private" listings. That alone makes me suspicious.

He probably won't accept, as the value is actually $4.26.

So a couple of weeks ago I bought a 'custom' car for ninety-nine cents. Shipping was $17.95! The car looked great, scratch built, and I'm glad I got it. Naturally with the postage I was the only bidder. I gave the seller one star on the postage rating and got a nasty reply. I told him what I consider "wrong" about his postage and selling technique and he wrote back telling me to go F--- myself!

I'm curious- What sort of Feedback Rating was showing? Can't believe it was possibly 100% positive.

Box, I don't really remember the exact rating. Something like 95% maybe. That is low, but the car was worth it. Epay is pretty good about making these things right so I took my chance. Glad I did. I just hope he doesn't list something else I want! Jim

How did he ship it, same day from New Zealand? I have sold many things of many sizes in the past year on ebay and have never had to pay such an extreme price as that for shipping, especially for something as small as a piece of rolling stock in N scale. Wanting to give the buyer a good deal, I usually ship it the cheapest method which could be First Class if less than 10-13 oz (?) which most N scale rolling stock is including the jewel case, or Parcel Post or media mail if it is a book, and then I usually pack it very well, because I know what the USPS is capabale of doing!

It's the latest 'trend', to charge next to nothing for an item and a huge amount for the shipping. If you're not paying attention, you may be paying for shipping.

Someone on there sells cabooses (cabeese?) in various shortlines that no one makes but the quality seems a tad questionable on the painting and it looks like they don't install the window "glass" after they paint them. Is that true and has anyone purchased one? (I put this in this section as it seems to fit as some people think there offerings are funny because of the prices they want and the quality that seems to be lacking in the photos they post.)

I recently got something off ebay and the postage was listed at 18.00$ , when the item got to me the USPS stamp says 8.90$ ... I gave the seller a 95% as the item was supposed to have lifetime warranty and the factory says it is non transferable . I told the seller the item has a problem ( listed as used but working ok ) and the factory will fix it for more than what I paid for the item ... well I give up and closed the complaint, I will most likely never buy used again off ebay.. I kept the item , it was a scope for my M4, the optics are good but the paralax focus knob is out of sync with the lens as it is suppose to be range finder.

Yes. That has been noted here previously. If they were well done, that person could really rake in the money. :(

How the heck did he know what stars you posted? I thought that stuff was supposed to be anonymous (and thus encourage honest/unfettered feedback).

He may be a throwback to the days when people tried to pay lower fees to Ebay by charging less for the product and more for the shipping (no fees on shipping until the last year or so, changed to adddress this type of activity). I guess my question to you is did you realize the shipping cost when you bid? Do you consider the car to be worth what you paid for it? I bid on auctions like this if the final price is what I expect to pay and if the item is as represented, I couldn't care less whether I paid more for the shipping and less for teh product or vice-versa.

if he posted that as the rate, I find it wrong that you 1 starred him. You agreed to those terms by bidding. What's next, giving a low rating because he only ships priority?
