Maybe the listing itself was the error? Yikes.

I am not sure why, and don't get me wrong I really do think MTL puts outs a very high quality product (almost all my rolling stock is MTL), but why do they produce cars like the "tootsie roll" car? Is it to get kids involved in MR?

I would tend to think doing so expands the field of possibilities. If they were to stick with just prototypes, eventually there would be a limit to road names they'd care to, or be able to legally produce.

Are those MT tank or Roundhouse? The ladders look to thick for MT. The paint job is pretty poor. Look at the position of Tootsie Roll in relation to the ladders. Freight Yard paint jobs were pretty hit and miss, especially in the later years. They ranged from pretty good to horrendous. Another fallen flag in the N Scale supply chain.

Premier Designs is a custom 'painter' originally in So Cal who did custom cars and decals (his store was in an industrial complex in Anaheim and called The Freight Yard). I don't think that the cars are MT cars, they look like Roundhouse (as Pete said above). Saying his paint was hit and miss is being polite...

The Tootsie Roll cars are not Micro-Trains cars, nor were they in any way authorized by MTL-- and neither was anything else that The Freight Yard did. They're one of the reasons why it's so hard to get undecs from MTL and there are and have always been quantity limits when the undecs are available.

MTL was not a fan of The Freight Yard. I think things hit a low point when TFY did Pepsi cars during the time that MTL was doing their licensed series. (TFY never bothered with such formalities as permission or licensing either as far as I know.)

The assessment of "hit or miss" paint is spot on. I do have their Genesee Beer refrigerator cars, soon to be replaced with the Atlas versions when they are released.

These specific cars appear to be MDC tank cars with MTL trucks, as previously noted.

Thinking back, in the long ago, I did buy one car from FY. It was not impressive, so that was the only time.

They did do one or two interesting things: I have a couple PS2 hoppers lettered for BNSF, and there were some Weyerhauser Evans boxcars and MRL cylindrical hoppers I saw once that would have been nice just to add extra roadnumbers to the fleet.

Well, yes, it does look like "custom work," but that isn't necessarily always a good thing...

    YUCK!!! Is that Play-Doh???
At least they're not asking $500 for it, like a wave of current items coming up on EvilBay!!

...... Not that I'm saying they're ALL bad - but most of these type of auctions seem to come out of the rural Midwest.....

I say that, having lived in a tiny town in Central Illinois!! :p

Something in the water makes them delusional. :O

Well, their use of the word "vintage" is certainly a falsehood. With a roofwalk? Back when those were in use, this country didn't allow morons to trash things with "graffiti".

LOL!!! I don't think we had that many morons back then? Back then there was a thing called respect. Yeah certain things happened, but back then there were also consequences. But I digress... :)
