Marty, you can set up a search in eBay that excludes a list of sellers. Thus, my "ignore list." eBay likes to make subtle (and not so subtle) changes to how it works so I don't want to put complete directions here, but suffice to say it's part of the Advanced Search page. (At least for now.) To keep a seller from buying from you, add them to the Blocked Bidder list. eBay has done a great job of hiding this but if you go to Customer Support and search on "block buyers" you eventually wind up at the list of steps to get to that list.
No. it's not a fluke or an accidentally misplaced decimal point, as evidenced by the other items offered... http://www.ebay.com/itm/JE-CON-COR-...916352?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item564ad8e700 And to illustrate that it's not a fluke... http://www.ebay.com/itm/EQ-TYCO-BOX...906029?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item564ad8bead http://www.ebay.com/itm/AG-VINTAGE-...819252?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item564ad76bb4 (There are others...) But I can't leave out-- 50% off! http://www.ebay.com/itm/57A-SOUTHER...655268?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item564ad4eb24 Yikes.
This one has me scratching my head: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Bachmann-N-...05&prg=10164&rk=2&rkt=6&sd=171365173662&rt=nc He is more than double- close to triple other offerings. at least there is no shipping!! Wolf
For that price a smart shopper can pick up at least 1000 of these at swap meets, if not triple that quantity.
Looks like most of the folks selling this same locomotive are using the same exact photo. And- the photo may very well be an HO model. (Kinda typical) Wolf
Prices do amaze me. But if someone buys it... hey the ptice was right. I am always amused when I search for product x and find buy it now at price y to 3 to 6 times y. I figure either these items sell at 6y, or someone is selling at 2 prices, to make the lower price seem a bargain. I know I overpaid on a number of items, when i first started in the hobby aand using ebay. Now that I have a few local shops and a few etailers, I spend less on ebay and really find the best price. That said, I'm sure I'm not unique and there is money to be made on new people coming to any hobby. I isn't just ebay. I paid list for lifelike SP PA locos, when I "had to have them", because My GS4 was down.... do you know anyone that paid $95 each, for a pair of these circa 2010? I did, so buyers are out there Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
Yeah, but then you'd have 1000 of them Meanwhile, just went to list something (not N Scale, not even trains) and in yet another revision of the selling screen there is a recommendation: "Start this auction at 99 cents" next to the opening auction price, along with a button, "Yes, do this" that was in my way. Uh, no.
It gets better. I am in the process of scheduling an item (this time, it is a train but it's not N Scale) and the listing hasn't even started yet. Up pops a "price revision" advisory. I click on it just for giggles and receive the message, "Your items haven't sold in a while, so consider updating the price to increase your chances of selling." Really? I haven't even listed it yet! Furthermore, when I did set up the listing, it was-- coincidentally-- within the originally "recommended range" based on what eBay "thinks" it has been selling for. (Obviously the $189 bay window caboose to which I referred earlier today won't be part of the math were I to try to list one of those.) And now, after I've set up the listing, I get a recommendation to "update the price"?!? This is humorous alright, but not in the way I usually expect... where's the 'banghead' smilie when you need it?
Oh wow. That is concerning. With the way things are getting priced, I'm curious how much the trains are going to be at a garage sale I am visiting this weekend (and that isn't really even Ebay related!).
wow! it would seem that mr john michael has lots of stuff he thinks is valuable. someone's treasures another one's trash! unbelievable... Gary
Maybe we're the crazy ones..He's actually selling some of that stuff..There was a pin from the San Fransisco Cable Car Museum he got over a hundred bucks for,and a stupid little green plastic whistle he got 125..
Many of his completed listings sold at Best Offer Accepted. I wonder if he is listing high and accepting low best offers. I'm not sure how E Bay fees work with a person that has a store. Seems unlikely he would sell all that junk for high prices. Something stinks.
Another one of the infamously 'rare' kadee cars that costs more than your bi-weekly car payment, just because "the same car recently sold for well north of this on a collector's site so this is a bargain..." http://www.ebay.com/itm/Kadee-MTL-2...030427?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item462278755b
No the bottom fell out of that one since Atlas has resupplied their dealers at last with brand new shiny NIB with factory air packages.
