I watch ebay a lot, searching for various things and hoping for a deal. I'm convinced there is a group of people that do nothing but bid on stuff like this. They have no use for it, and the bids submitted have no correlation to reality - they only want to win the auction and "collect" more items, cornering the market on ultra rare, super collective rare items.
    Yes I'm bitter:ru-mad:

Yeah I was thinking the same thing - their name is ridiculous - maybe should be 'bigpricedtrains' . And the trouble with telling them is you just get that standard answer you have seen so many times on ebay "If you dont like my (prices, shipping, policy) then dont bid" answer from them.

Well, at that price he can eat it. Probably looking for someone who doesn't know the market or the "Gotta Have It Right NOW" type to bid.

I am simply confused on this one-

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Pair-new-Rio-Grande-D-RGW-Krauss-Maffei-ML4000s-N-scale-DCC-/300671129092

I understand these are resin shells/truck sideframes. How much would you guys pay for a Krauss-Maffei? Obviously this guy has put a price tag in his labor of love, but I don't see anything that points to the $1k mark? Esp. when (the single picture shows) the paint lines are not straight nor is the casting sanded flat along the bottom? (sorry, no offense intended, but masking tape is like $3 and sandpaper another $2.....).

I need a cup of coffee.

And for a few dollars more, you can have additional details... oh yeah, shipping $5.20...

Hmmm... what mistakes can I find on my workbench for eBay?

    Great catch, F7A

Even with my old eyes I can see that there are problems in the casting that need serious correcting looking at the enlargement. Very poor casting in my book. Then there is the issue of the cab which is obviously a solid block of material which takes away from the whole thing. Should be hollow with glazing. And was the painting done with a two inch brush? And I seriously question the MMR behind the name. I have known a number of folks that are MMRs and the quality of work they put out way eclipses this. Most of the work I have seen on this board is light years ahead of this. And all for a measly $1000 USD. If this sells I'm going into my scrap diesel body drawer and pull out 4 or 5 get my biggest brush and slap whatever is the color of the day from my brush rinse jar and then throw some decals at it. Better yet I probably should have put my semi destroyed finish heater car on the site and advertised as one of a kind, rare, custom build, and heavily weathered. With all the money I'll make from that I can afford a custom built house, and a big separate out building with HVAC, custom workshop and a layout with 100 foot mainlines. Time for another cup of Strong Tea.

As a post script I went back and looked at some of the undec. castings and they are poor with a lot of flaws that would need some serious work. The truck castings might pass okay. So the shell castings are way overpriced for the lack of quality and the amount of work some poor soul will have to do with putty and files. Enough I'm going back to my cave in the back of the N scale Zendo. I may have some fermented elixor that will calm me down in there somewhere.

Doesn't Del Prado make a Krauss-Maffei? Hmm..... I am also considering some of their steamers with a Bachman mechanism. Right now though, am on the biggest kit bash of my life so it can wait! Glad you guys see th silliness of that KM as well. Oh, and the coffee is gooooooooooood..........

Shipping $5.20 - but $1000 of insurance = $12.55 - oh, yeah if i got that much for something I would foot the bill for the insurance happily :)

And I think last week he had these posted in kit form for $200. Someone must think these are worth gold. I would not give more than $100 though with the quality of the paint job.

If you check the other items you will find the shells going at $65. Looked at them and they still need a lot of clean up and parts for that price.

I thought this guy was posing as an MMR, so I googled him. Apparently he really is an MMR. It looks like he has an indoor G scale layout. I thought he hit an extra zero in his asking price, but he has been trying to sell this loco for $1000.00 before. Surprise, surprise, no takers.

I thought I had seen it all until this.

He will probably be all excited by the number of "watchers" he has on his auction.

If it was a descent model, I might give $100.00. On this model there are so many things wrong, I wouldn't bid at all.

    This is kind of sad.
