It would indeed have some value, but not that much. Especially since we can readily see the two lines where car body sections were glued together.
You just have to love the weathering on these cooling towers. The only thing that comes out of these is steam, you may get some discoloration of the concrete near the top, but certainly not this black sooty look like you might with a smoke stack.
All - Though this is not on stupid bay.. or whatever one calls it now. I saw this on DD -DIESEL DETAILER- their faceb. page. Other than umtrr-author , George's sign post here . This looks reasonable . Tom
I did a search for 'Southern Pacific'...out of the first page of 60 listings, 25 were those stupid High Speed Readers Digest freebee cars...SIGH!
This is my suggestion here. Can one say yes to these RD's READERS DIGEST equipment and give then to their your RAIL LINE Shops for Rebuild Fodder, if not have them go to a Local Scrap dealer on your Rail Line. Tom
All, Well, ok If this seller insists on the $144.47 ! N Life-Like Conrail GP-40 Set-3 2-Diesel Locos: /1-Engine /1-Dummy /1-Caboose | eBay , if I am not mistaken here.. the seventh photo show that these two CR -CONRAIL Locomotives are LIFE LIKE GP38-2's .. Not GP40'S .. these are from LIFE LIKE's Original GP38-2 1988 Release ! Tom
...and there's no easy way to block them from the search. There even used to be a warning whenever anyone posted something 'High Speed' letting the seller know that these 'cars' are Readers Digest freebies and they should think twice about listing them (but with the new changes, I would be surprised if it still was there). Most of the time, the seller still thinks of them as valuable and the asking price is silly, but there are just SO MANY that keep getting listed, no matter how you try to block them, they still show up in the listings.
Ooooooooo. I want to bid, bid, bid! What criteria should I use to search for this jewel? Perhaps "twenty five cent piece of junk"?
....... and their "booster" shots. Hmmmmm , boosters are cabless ..... so is that making it better or worse ???
Seriously . I have figured out a use for them. I have to mix paint to get correct colours ( long story , other thread ) and I found that spraying test mixes on flat surfaces such as a piece of plastic or aluminium it would not look right. It was sort of one dimensional for want of a better explanation. I found that test spraying paint on really old Bachmann freight cars and F7 bodies gave me a much better idea of how the colour will look on an actual loco or car.
I don’t have space for it, but branching off this idea, if anyone wanted to make yard scene with locos getting cut up for scrap, parts, rebuild, etc., that’s probably the best use of them. Paint ‘em, saw ‘em up, and throw a couple of gondola out there with leftovers. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
