I used a few of your signs on the Ghoti Seafood Co. at the far back left side of this scene. (Actually pretty much only a mockup. Track is not laid, boat kits are unbuilt, etc.) The Ghoti Seafood building was printed out, with signs added to the image, and glued onto the backdrop. It is intended to be a place where shadows of modeled buildings can fall onto a believable nearby flat surface instead of falling onto the scene that is supposed to be a quarter mile away. Ghoti is pronounced with "gh" as is "tough", the "o" in the middle has an "ih" soiund though I don't remember why, and the "ti" is pronounced as in "motion". So altogether, "Ghoti" is pronouncedd "fish".
1930's to about 1970. In many small country towns & villages signs were not modernized as fast as in large cities. I model the 1960's (pre Burlington Northern). I hope this helps, Tom aka tomkat!
I'm sure someone else asked this, but where do you find all of these gems? That is the greatest collection of old signs I have ever seen. :tb-biggrin:
I check out online auctions, collectors sites, google images, collector forums ect. The hardest challenge is to find straight on in focus images. Also the forum lowers the the size (bites) & dimensions (pixels). Since I'm always looking for signs for my own layout set in the late 1960's but also find signs from the 1930's, 40's, & 50's so I just add them in so others can use them.........Tom aka the tomkat!
