I'm looking for information about what motive power (and cabeese) the Rock Island would have used for transfer runs in the Chicago area during the 1950s. Thanks, Ben
Transfer Locos Depends- I don't know all data but Mikes were on some scheduled cuts. 0-8-0s were not regulars, and despite policies to keep them on property I saw them lugging transfers. Never paid attention to DEs, but they weren't covered wagons xcpt when road trains were essentially all transfer freight (which was often case in CHI), that needed little or no shuffling. New caboose, add or cut out a couple of cuts... and sent on way. Join YAHOO's CRIP group(s) to find people who cared enough about DEs to remember this stuff. PJB
