This little guy has occupied a small square of real estate for the 15 years I've been here. The gearing is insane and the leverage on that rear connecting arm!
Looks to be well kept. I can see in the first photo there is a wire wrapped around a side rod. Is that an extension cord for some lighting?
A closer examination of IMG_9311 leads me to conclude that Baldwin built it as a Vauclain compound. I see piston rods coming out of both the larger and smaller cylinders. A Vauclain compound is just like another compound steam engine except that there's both a high- and low-pressure cylinder on each side. The valve gear must be inside. That's pretty sophisticated for a little critter like this. Interesting beastie.
