CP rail SD-40-2s have their headlights on the nose and a bell above the windshield. My unit from Kato has the lights on the cab. Is there a way to move these to the nose and still have them work? Also, is it possible to add working ditch lights to this unit? Are details like this possible in N scale or should I just add non-working lights and accept it. Thanks all... you guys are a wealth of information. D6
I ordered some SD35 shells from ATLAS with the low nose headlight. You can use fibre optics to run the light down to the nose.If your talking the snoots you may have to extend the short hood some. ------------------ Catt!member#118 NARA member#1 A proud member of NARA & A freelancer to the very end
Being a Santa Fe/BNSF modeller, I have the same problem. As Catt says, fibre-optics are the best way to achieve this. Have not yet attempted ditch lights, though! ------------------ Alan Curtis. I am really glad you brought this up. I have 3 SD40-2's and already two of them have working ditch lights. I used the fiber optic method. I had to mill the frame, walking tred and sill (all where you cant see it). Let me tell you guys, with the white LED these modifications look SOOOO good!!! I need to get a picture on here soon. As some of you know, I did custom painting for a long time and custom jobs and I am thinking about doing this one to those who are interested, E mail me if you would like more info. I can send you a picture via E mail as well. Hope this helps. ------------------ Craig Martyn Best Looking Models Around Custom detailing AND N scale detail parts.
