Our layout is a fictitious railroad that models the history and industry (primarily agriculture, railroading and oil) that built the area of west central Texas where we live. My mom grew up in Quanah, TX, and her father was a career lineman for the QA&P--a subsidiary of the Frisco.

The MOW facility is almost done. It needs more junk, dirt, oil spills, etc., but it's close. There will eventually be a crane, boom tender and steam tender. Once those are here (from another modeler on the forum), I'll post some photos.

It's pretty rudimentary because there's not much space, as it's squeezed between the mainline and the team track and it's industries. I don't really like curved MOW tracks but there was no other option. The overhead crane is the Campbell Scale Models Quincy Overhead Crane Kit. It went together pretty well. The kit has been sitting in my drawer full of unbuilt kits for years, so the MOW facility seemed like a pretty good place for it.

The 2-6-6-2 is a fictitious model a friend built for me. It lives in the MOW area. The Frisco had some 2-8-8-2's, but no 2-6-6-2's. There was a Sierra Railroad 2-6-6-2 just sitting in it's original box in my closet for years that was originally going to be a WP 2-6-6-2. I decided to make a QA&P one-off instead.

A friend who is extremely good at modifying brass locomotives built it. He removed the sand dome and added two Frisco style sand domes and sand lines, added the hose reel and doghouse to the tender, relocated the backup light, put the toolbox on the pilot, changed the marker lights to the
style of marker lights used by Frisco, relocated the bell, added a Frisco coonskin plate to the smokebox cover, etc., etc. It's still a gravel grinder like all of the PFM / United articulateds, but looks and runs pretty good.

Thanks!!! It was a fun project. Attached are a few photo of the project and two of it completed on a different portion of the layout.

    Sweet!:)

It really looks good. The last photo of the run-by of the narrow-gauge facilities - running on dual-gauge track no less - is just about perfect.

Thanks to Tom Holley, the MOW facility is just about done. A few details will be added, but the equipment is now in place. There's a new (to me) water car, derrick, derrick tender, and boom tender--all QA&P. MOW equipment has always been some of my favorites. Cranes, flatcars covered with stuff, specialized tank cars, etc.,..it's all cool.

    Nice work!(y)

Your facility has stirred up memories of youth when I spent my school lunch hours at the nearby station in Ste-Thérèse, QC, back in the 1970s. There were a few tracks behind the station itself, where CP stored a lot of MOW equipment, like cranes, tool cars, flatcars covered in stuff, plows, bunk cars, etc. It was neat to wander around there.:)
