Mr-Safe (Model Railroaders – Supporting a fellow enthusiast)

Mr-Safe would be a support system for model railroad enthusiast that could use financial assistance in pursuing the hobby. I'm not rich but at 77 have most of the items I need to work on my model railroad into the future, thus not a big need to spend more on it at this time. I'd like to start diverting some of my retirement income to help some of my fellow enthusiast that haven't been as lucky as I have and could use a little financial help.

I'm on a couple of the model railroading forums and I can't say for sure but I believe that some of our fellow model railroaders, especially the retired ones, find themselves in a situation where funding their hobby is hard. The hobby is a big part of their life and brings them a lot of joy. I'd like to help by setting aside so much a month, as is possible, to set up a fund to help them. If someone could 'really' benefit from the help they could PM me and I'd try and help via a confidential PayPal donation to them.

I'm posting this to see if anyone else would be interested in getting involved with this? Either as a donor or to help administer this. As a donor you could send a one time or maybe a monthly donation to a PayPal account that would be set up for this purpose. I'm also posting to see if there are some that this would be a help to.

On the administrative side I'd like to have 2 others that would be involved with this, if it gets off the ground. They would also have access to the PayPal account that would be setup to keep it transparent. They would also be there to take 'personal messages' from those that could use the assistance. Hopefully donations would come in along with requests for assistance which would be fulfilled in the order they came to us. If this succeeds at all then we would look into forming a 501(c)(3) which would make donations tax deductible (I think). I'd also like to have a couple of others participate on other boards. They could take requests for assistance from members there and pass them on to us. At this point I'd like to concentrate mainly on is this something worth pursuing and not get into a hundred 'what-ifs'.

The names of those that made donations and those that requested assistance would not be made public. Donation totals raised would probably be made public but individual assistance requests would not be made public.

I'd like input on what might be a reasonable assistance request. I'm thinking somewhere between $50 and $100. The purpose of this isn't to help someone buy a new sound locomotive but more to help with supplies that they would get a lot of bang for the buck.

    Thanks,

    Sumner
