I am looking at the MRC drop in decoder for the KATO HO F40ph. They are on their website for $25, which is red flag number one. Something seems suspicious about that. I have heard that the MRC decoders are sketchy, but I have also heard that they did “new and improved” decoders in the last few years or so. If the sound is bad, is there any way to download new sound files like on some other brand decoders? The one thing I do like about the MRC decoders is that they have ditch light LEDs, something that can be complicated to do by hand with KATO’s light tube design. Does anybody recommend these decoders, or should I go and get an ESU or Tsunami?
