MTH, the well known O scale manufacturer, will be producing models in scale 1/32. [IMG] First releases are announced for late autumn.
Read more about this on their site:

There are also rumors that one of the G scale manufacturers will stop production in this scale. :(

Well that's good news for the "hobby" as a whole. It suggests that LS things aren't just a passing fad but I can't for the life of me understand why a manufacturer of North American types would do so in 1/32 scale. 1/29 scale is so firmly established that many proven buyers will be shut out. Very odd indeed.

Yes, I know the difference isn't that great, particularly if the models are of larger prototypes, but still, I'll be reluctant to buy anything from MTH.

    Been wrong before.

Hey Dave, how is the WVRR doing??

I agree with what you said about 1/29 and 1/32. But I'm very curious about the level of detail MTH will apply on their scale 1 locomotives.

I have seen their O scale models, but they are still far from the level of detail the Atlas O scale locomotives have.

If they do the same in G scale then it won't be a great success!

I don't know what to expect. The only "standard" I know is the one set by USA/Aristo. I am in the unfortunate position of NEVER having seen an O scale layout, up close, in person. Or even a good O scale display for that matter. Guess I've lived in "the bush" too long.

A big layout in the Toronto area, Aberfoyle Junction, is a masterpiece and has been featured in many different magazines. It looks beautiful with all that CN and CP scenery but from what I can gather most of the engines are brass and not simply "off the shelf" models.

We'll see. Like I said, the "big" items might be ok. Looking for more types of rolling stock rather than more engines anyway.

Just as an idea of MTH's mentality, they stopped producing 2 rail O scale for the most part. The reason was the 2 railers were to picky. I didn't occure to them that maybe tinplate trucks under the engines, which were not to scale, didn't look good. I stopped buying even there 3 rail scale engines due to the fact that they were using their smaller Railking trucks under their scale stuff. Its all about money. If the market can live with MTH's product, regardless of compatability they will stick it out. Otherwise they will discontinue their large scale trains and complain that the market was to picky. Don't take this as sour grapes, I don't need to buy trains and if I don't like them I don't purchase them. I would hope that MTH doesn't become the large scale copy cats like they have in O. Just an opinion mind you.
